National Park Service (NPS) Northeast Regional Director Dennis R. Reidenbach has named Jill A. Hawk as superintendent of Morristown National Historical Park. Hawk, who is currently chief ranger for the region, will assume her duties on Jan. 3, 2011.

“As chief ranger for the Northeast Region, Jill is a creative problem-solver who has focused on a wide range of issues across the region, including a recent assignment as acting superintendent at Petersburg National Battlefield,” said Reidenbach. “She brings a great deal of skill, energy and enthusiasm into her new position, and is the right person to follow Randy Turner as he retires after 35 years of exemplary federal service.”

In her role as regional chief ranger, Hawk oversees regional programs including risk management, environmental protection, safety and occupational health, law enforcement, wildland fire, structural fire, search and rescue, emergency management, emergency services, and aviation for 76 sites across the 13 states within the northeast region. Before being selected as regional chief ranger in 2005, Hawk was chief ranger at Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State.

She began her NPS career in 1989 as a seasonal park ranger, first at Fire Island National Seashore in New York and then at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. She also had assignments at the Statue of Liberty National Monument (1990-1991), Everglades National Park (1991-1996), and Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina (1996-2000).

Hawk graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Session 224 in March 2006. She completed graduate study in Organizational Psychology (Master of Arts) in June 2005 from Antioch University Seattle and completed undergraduate study in natural resource management with a concentration in Park Management (Bachelor of Science) from the University of Tennessee (Martin) in 1988.
