Camp Antioch
This is a powerful / meaningful / magical / fun weekend that feeds the mind, body and spirit and leaves alumni and guests with memories that last them a lifetime. Camp Antioch 2009 will be held Friday through Sunday, July 17-19, 2009, on Vashon Island.
This weekend is a gift to yourself……….a time out of time, away from the cell phone and the computer…….a time to relax, a time to learn and grow in a beautiful pastoral setting with breath taking waterfront views and deer that roam freely throughout the camp grounds………..a place where you can throw away the rules and restrictions of your daily life and be who you really are.
It’s also a place where you learn things that you can take back to your working life and an opportunity to make a lot of personal connections that can be valuable resources later. Many alumni who attend the camp feel it helped revive that enthusiasm for learning and growing that made their days at the Seattle campus so special. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the laughter that pervades all that happens at Camp Antioch.
About Camp Antioch
The idea of an adult camp weekend was the outgrowth of a suggestion by a Antioch College alum. This is the third year Camp Antioch will be held on beautiful Vashon Island, a 15 minutes ferry ride from West Seattle, Tacoma or the Kitsap Peninsula. Amenities include a gorgeous waterfront property on Quartermaster Harbor with wooded areas and trails for walking, meeting and sleeping rooms that face the water along with delicious and satisfying meals.
Workshops and facilitated discussions are led by faculty and alumni on a variety of worthy topics. Physical exercise options include beach walks and exercises emphasizing leadership building. Of course no beach retreat would be the same without campfires, smores, songs and lots of one-on-one conversations. Plenty of time is factored in for the spontaneous and unexpected.
Who Can Come?
Alumni, staff, faculty, students and partners and friends from all six Antioch campuses are invited to attend and bring their own bedding, pillow and bath towels plus toiletry items (shampoo, toothbrush, etc.). Also, don’t forget your flashlight. Vegetarians, vegans or those alumni who have dairy or wheat allergies can also be accommodated.
