Stand for Children – a bold and independent voice for public education reform – seeks an exceptional individual to organize in its state affiliate of Washington.

The Organizations
The Stand for Children family consists of two separate organizations—Stand for Children, a grassroots membership lobby for children exempt under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, and Stand for Children Leadership Center, a leadership development organization exempt under section 501(c)(3).

Stand for Children’s mission is to use the power of grassroots action to help all children get the excellent public education and strong support they need to thrive. To date, Stand for Children’s state affiliates (AZ, CO, IL, IN, MA, OR, TN, TX, and WA) have won more than one hundred victories that have impacted the lives of more than two million children. We organize parents, educators, and other concerned community members into a strong, sustained constituency that:

• Helps elect strong local school board members, state legislators, and statewide elected officials who champion public schools;*
• Advocates for education reforms at the state and local level, including reforms that increase teacher and principal effectiveness, support school autonomy with accountability, and expand instructional time, that improve student achievement and close the achievement gap;
• Lobbies the state legislature for strategic K-12 investments and then ensures local school districts spend those dollars wisely;
• Campaigns for referenda and needed school construction bonds and operating levies.

Stand for Children Leadership Center’s mission is to develop leaders who use the power of grassroots action to help all children get the excellent public education and strong support they need to thrive. Stand Leadership Center engages parents, educators, and other concerned community members by:
• Training them on how to join together to become more effective advocates for children;
• Educating them on issues that impact children and schools;
• Providing them with the tools to develop solutions for children in their local and statewide communities.

The Position
Stand for Children seeks an outstanding organizer to help build chapters of Washington Stand for Children within the Seattle/Tacoma region of the state. The Organizer will contribute to Stand for Children’s mission to improve public education by:
• Building strong teams of parents, educators, and community members who take regular action on behalf of all children;
• Building effective partnerships with existing well-established city, neighborhood, and constituency groups;
• Engaging leaders and members on strategically selected local campaigns and on statewide electoral and lobbying campaigns.

The Organizer will contribute to Stand for Children Leadership Center’s goals by:
• Developing the leadership of parent, educator, and community leaders through rigorous, ongoing training, coaching, and mentoring; and
• Educating parents, educators, and community leaders on how schools in their communities are serving students, understanding the education system, and policies that will impact the quality of schools in Washington and beyond.

The Organizer will join a national team of professionals committed to improving children’s lives. Stand for Children’s managers and supervisors are empowering, entrepreneurial leaders who are committed to providing outstanding supervision in order for staff to develop as professionals and grow within the organization.

Qualifications and Qualities
• Strong commitment to Stand for Children and Stand for Children Leadership Center’s shared goal of improving public schools;
• 2 years’ experience managing a team of volunteers/members a plus;
• Community organizing, political organizing, or campaigning experience is a plus;
• Experience teaching in a classroom setting a plus;
• An entrepreneurial, learning orientation and an ability to embrace and incorporate direct feedback;
• A tremendous drive and strong ability to achieve outcomes;
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills; ability to initiate, foster and leverage contact from diverse networks to achieve strong outcomes crucial;
• Willingness to work flexible hours including 1-2 evenings per week and occasional weekends; full-time access to a car;
• Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) a plus.

We are looking for someone with 5-8 years experience in the following areas: inter-agency coordination, government relations, stakeholder outreach, transportation policy, and media coordination. Excellent communication and writing skills, including the ability to prepare talking points, PowerPoint presentations, and news releases, is required. The Data and Evaluation Director leads the data efforts for the non-profit organization to endure the collection of valid and timely data which the organization can use to make solid service decisions and demonstrate the organizations’ positive impact on the lives of the young people they serve. The Director be the liaison between the Organization and key stakeholders, along with various satellite locations that utilize the Organizations data. The Director is a key stakeholder in defining and directing the Organizations data while strengthening and maintaining internal and external relationships, set organizational direction, provide continuity in terms of policies and processes.

General Responsibilities:
As a senior leadership team member, the Director focuses on:
· Assuring appropriate data is collected, analyzed, and readily available for use by the organization:
· Manage the data evaluation and auditing process to ensure that data is being entered consistently and correctly by various users across the system.
· Ensure delivery of data and reports along a lengthy pipeline of providers and users
· Continues to refine data strategies and make them more supportive of evidence-based collection
· Oversee program/project evaluation efforts. Consolidate the evaluation efforts and work being managed by various individuals in the organization and contracted firms
· Communicate to internal and external stakeholders on the progress, performance, issues, and plans for improvement regarding data, systems, and related topics.
· Strengthen relationships with both Assistant Director of Outcomes and CIO to better position the Organization to report to and collaborate with its major stakeholders.
· Highlight crucial program outcome indicators from among a host of diverse input
· Gain empirical evidence to make the case for additional funding, particularly from the federal government and an expanding base of private foundations
· Enable objective review of internal service-level arrangements
· Target service agreement enhancement efforts strategically
· Define over time the internal and external resource requirements for responsible sustainable replication
· Advance Organizations standing as an outstanding philanthropic investment and a national leader in the field.
· Supervise the current data specialist FTE (who works from home) and help evolve that position into more of a data analyst role.

· Highly developed verbal communication skills: interpersonally, in consultative and facilitative roles, and as a presenter

Requirements:
· Master’s degree in education, public policy, social sciences, or related field required.
· 8 years’ experience in roles with heavy data management and reporting responsibilities, including process design, implementation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
· Must be highly proficient at producing complex data analyses and able to explain them to a wide variety of audiences.
· Knowledge of standard research and statistical methodologies, e.g. basic research design including quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, descriptive and inferential statistics, and other generally-accepted analysis approaches.
· Fluency with MS Office computer software applications, experience using statistical software preferred.

This year our integrated array of comprehensive services, treatment and housing will help more than 7,000 people. At DESC, uncommon efforts produce uncommon results that eliminate homelessness, one person at a time.

DESC is now recruiting for four (4) Clinical Support Specialists (CSS) at The Union Hotel, the Lyon Building, and two at the Morrison Hotel. CSS’s are responsible for the coordination of treatment/service planning efforts for all residents, in conjunction with case managers from DESC and outside provider organizations. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, be creative, be assertive and take initiative are essential. Other minimum qualifications include a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in a social or behavioral science, ability to meet state requirements for registration as a counselor and experience working with homeless adults disabled by chronic alcoholism, mental illness and drug use, preferred.

Essential Tasks/Responsibilities:
• Ensuring the accurate maintenance of the master catalog file of courses for the college, consisting of reviewing federal CIP and assigning Education Program Codes and communicating this information to the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.
